Heavy rains, high winds cause damage

STODDARD COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – Severe weather rolled through the Fox 23 viewing area Wednesday.

Flooding rains and isolated tornadoes were expected to occur for the southeast region Missouri. The winds were around 40-50 miles per hour.

Local areas have also taken a major impact from the storms. In Cape Girardeau, the heavy rains cause major flooding in low lying areas.

Earlier Wednesday, a tree fell over causing significant damage to the back of a house in Stoddard County. No one was harmed. The fire department responded immediately. According to a department official, the cause was a mix of soft ground underneath the tree and heavy winds.

In Stoddard County, significant flooding covered the roads which lead to dangerous driving conditions. Another tree fell and caused minimal damage nearby. Power lines were also affected.
