Local man on a mission to help feed the hungry with fish plates

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI(KBSI) – A local man is turning his past struggles into a helping hand and a hot meal. After experiencing homelessness himself Corey Sifford decided to give back in a big way.

Corey Sifford organizes the Lil fish program of Southeast Missouri. He shares that when he overcame homelessness, he couldn’t get those still struggling out of his head and he wanted to help, so he started the lil fish program of Southeast Missouri, making fried fish plates and through donations giving clothing and toiletries to those in need. 

“I was homeless around poplar bluff area and I kind of got to see what was going on, and it just, it just hit me like a like a baseball bat” says Sifford.

 Sifford shares that they hand out meals every Wednesday in the afternoons, and they are in Poplar Bluff on the first Wednesday of every month and in Cape Girardeau on the 2cd Wednesday of every month and update their Facebook page called  lil fish program on exact location details. 

Sifford shares the Elks of Advance let him utilize their kitchen to cook meals and he’s received a lot of great help from organizations in which he hopes to keep growing.

“Weve been traveling around Southeast Missouri trying to help everybody out who might need a little bit of help” says Sifford. “We’ve been doing this for a short period of time, and it’s really blown up and we just hope this keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger.”
