Local smokehouse busy prepping for St. Patrick’s Day

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – St. Patrick’s Day is tomorrow, which means restaurants are busy preparing their dishes for a busy holiday weekend.

At Mary Jane Bourbon + Smokehouse, in Cape Girardeau, barbecue artist Colton Dodds was busy smoking up beef briskets, ribs, corned-beef briskets and even pastrami for their pastrami on rye sandwiches.

Being a smokehouse, Dodds said they wanted smoked pastrami instead of the typical Reuben sandwich.

“So, we introduced at the time what was our Reuben, but being a smokehouse we didn’t want to do corned beef, we wanted to do smoke pastrami, which is why we do our traditional pastrami on rye, not a classic Reuben sandwich.”
