Local students represent Egyptian Electric Cooperative on youth tour to Washington, D.C.
MURPHYSBORO, Ill., (KBSI) — Two southern Illinois students represented the Egyptian Electric Cooperative Association on a Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.
Madison Voss of Murphysboro High School and Harlan Whiteford of Marion High School joined over 2,000 students from 44 states for the weeklong trip, sponsored by 25 Illinois electric and telephone cooperatives.
The students explored landmarks such as Gettysburg, the U.S. Capitol and the National Mall. They also participated in a student-run cooperative simulation, gaining insight into cooperative governance.
The Youth Tour aims to teach students about leadership and the importance of their voices.
