Local opinions on the impact of a Voter watching the Presidential Debate

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – With the election on the horizon, we talk to local Cape Girardeau residents about how the debate can impact their decision when voting in November.

We asked Cape Girardeau resident Sean Sullivan about the impact of watching the debate can do to voters who are unsure “that would get ride of a lot of assumptions, because like a lot of like ideals like one party versus this party but a lot of times like the politicians don’t fully agree one way or another.”

While some may not know who they are voting for yet, others already know who they are voting for, like Cape Girardeau resident Hunter DeClue who says.

“personally, I already know who I’m gonna vote for, but I am looking forward to seeing firm stances on policy issues.” Saying,  “so far the Kamala campaign hasn’t had any firm policy standings and so I know that they just recently updated their website, but I’m interested to see how that translates into the debate.”

We asked DeClue what he is looking forward to hearing from the Kamala Harris’s campaign, and he says “I’m interested to see how she starts this first big debate.” He says “I mean, I think you say with her campaign it’s very sporadic and it’s very disorganized. She changes her positions on policy pretty frequently so like I said it’s a great opportunity for her to make friends of friends she should make it. Hopefully she’ll make too many enemies.”

When asked what watching the debate does for his vote, Sullivan says “Personally, I don’t think it matters too, too much because I mean each side you kinda know what they’re about the only thing that it would really affect me on is his tax policies.” Sullivan says the reason is “because me and my dad were wanting to start a business in the future and I know that Trump‘s policies are a lot better for businesses than Kamala Harris.”
