CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) – A Code Yellow lockdown was initiated at Carbondale High School on Tuesday afternoon after the Carbondale Police Department notified school administrators of a foot pursuit taking place near the school.

The school immediately went into lockdown at approximately 1:45 p.m., limiting movement within the building and suspending entry to and exit from the campus.

The lockdown was lifted at 1:50 p.m. after the School Resource Officer was informed that the suspect had been apprehended.

Announcements were made throughout the building, and a text message was sent to parents notifying them that the lockdown had ended.

“The safety and security of our students and staff is always our top priority,” said Superintendent Booth.

“We appreciate everyone’s cooperation during this event.

If you have any questions about this situation or our safety protocols, please don’t hesitate to contact the CCHS Principal’s Office or the Superintendent’s Office.”
