Longtime Shawnee Community College trustee James Darden dies

ULLIN, Ill., (KBSI) — Shawnee Community College Trustee James Darden has died, the college announced.

Darden was a longtime champion of the college and the communities it serves, according to SCC President Dr. Tim Taylor.

Before joining the board, Darden worked in the college’s Adult Education Department, helping numerous individuals transform their lives through learning.

Darden faced several health challenges, including a double-lung transplant, with resilience and courage.

Visitation will be held April 29 from 4-7 p.m. at Grange Hall Free Will Baptist Church in Marion, followed by funeral services at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to several organizations, including the Barnes-Jewish Transplant Foundation and the Shawnee College Adult Education Program.
