Low water levels expose Tower Rock in Mississippi River

PERRY COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – Hundreds of people gathered this past week as the low water levels exposed the Tower Rock landmark in Perry County.

The water levels were so low, you could walk across to the exposed land.

It’s something that doesn’t usually happen. Normally the Mississippi River flows around Tower Rock.

Lower water levels mean less water access for first responders, but in the event of an emergency, they have other ways of helping people in need.

“The way we would access it if we had to go out, there would be our inflatable boats which we can actually pick those up and carry them out to the to the water level if we or the water if we need to,” said Brad Dillow with the Cape Girardeau Fire Department.

Battalion Chief Dillow fears that the water levels may not return to normal anytime soon. He urges everyone to remain cautious while on the water.
