Madison County crews rescue stranded kayaker after overnight search

MADISON COUNTY, KY. (KBSI) — A missing kayaker was safely rescued early Saturday morning after an overnight search in Madison County.

Emergency crews were called around 1:45 a.m. to search for the individual, prompting a response from the Madison County Fire Department’s Special Operations and Swiftwater Rescue Team.

After several hours of searching, crews located the kayaker around 4 a.m. Officials say the person’s kayak had overturned and become entangled, leaving him stranded on top of the vessel nearly 10 miles from where he was expected to be.

Rescue teams were able to safely bring the individual back to shore. After being evaluated on scene by EMS, the kayaker did not require additional medical treatment.

Officials say the rescue was completed without incident.
