Madison County Fire Rescue issues burn safety reminder after multiple brush fires
FOX23 News at 9 p.m.
MADISON COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) – Madison County Fire Rescue is reminding residents that burn permits are required after firefighters responded to seven significant brush fires in the past 24 hours.
The department said the Tennessee Division of Forestry is responsible for issuing burn permits in Madison County. Permits must be obtained before any outdoor burning and can be applied for through the agency’s website.
Fire officials urge residents to burn responsibly by obtaining a valid permit, staying aware of dry conditions, checking wind speed and direction before burning, never leaving a fire unattended, keeping water or other suppression tools nearby, and fully extinguishing fires when finished.
Officials warn that dry weather and windy conditions can cause fires to spread quickly and unpredictably, placing lives, property and firefighters at risk.
The Madison County Fire Department thanked the public for helping keep the community safe.
