Madison County firefighters evacuate nursing home amid winter weather

MADISON COUNTY, Tnn., (KBSI) – Madison County firefighters assisted with the evacuation of a nursing home in Adamsville late Tuesday as worsening winter weather created unsafe conditions, officials said.
Special Operations crews were initially dispatched to assist Madison County Health with setting up a heating unit at the facility. After arriving on scene and assessing deteriorating weather conditions, responders determined that evacuating residents was the safest option.
Additional Madison County Fire personnel and Medical Center EMS were called in to assist. Crews worked together to safely relocate residents to facilities in Jackson, Henderson and Collierville, where they were placed in warm and secure environments.
Officials said the response came after an already demanding day for firefighters, who continued operations to support a neighboring community.
Emergency officials are reminding the public that extremely cold temperatures and hazardous road conditions persist and are urging residents to remain at home if possible.
