Major Case Squad disbands after arrest in Cape Girardeau homicide

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Cape Girardeau-Bollinger County Major Case Squad has disbanded following an arrest in the killing of a Marble Hill man.
Officers responded around 6:56 a.m. July 20 to the 1300 block of North Main Street after receiving a report of a man lying on the ground and bleeding. Officers found the man dead at the scene.
Investigators identified the victim as 39-year-old Andrew Rhodes of Marble Hill. Police said Rhodes had been assaulted and struck multiple times in the head with a long pole.
According to investigators, the suspect returned about 10 minutes later, struck Rhodes again and took his pants before leaving the scene.
The Major Case Squad identified the suspect as 45-year-old Gabreal McBride of Cape Girardeau.
The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged McBride on July 21 with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action. He is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond.
Investigators said they believe everyone connected to the homicide is in custody and do not anticipate additional arrests. The Cape Girardeau Police Department will handle the remainder of the investigation.
