Man accused of buying UTV with fake check, selling it to someone else in Dunklin County

STEELE, Mo. (KBSI) – An Arkansas man faces charges in Steele, Mo. after police say he bought a UTV with a fraudulent check.

Keabron McFarland, of Osceola, Ark. faces charges of stealing a motor vehicle and forgery.

The Steele Police Department received a report on April 12 from a man saying he received a fraudulent check after selling his side by side.

After the sale, the man found out the check he received was fraudulent.

Steele police and Dunklin County Sheriff’s deputies found and recovered the UTV at a home in Senath.

Steele Police Chief Billy Joe Stanfield says the person in Senath was an “unwitting participant.”

The UTV was given back to the owner. It is estimated to be worth $16,500.

Chief Stanfield says another arrest is expected.

He urges the public to excercise extra caution when using online marketplaces and meeting strangers for transactions.
