Man accused of firing shots into vehicle on I-55

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – One man faces charges after the Scott County sheriff says he fired multiple shots into a vehicle on Interstate 55.

Scott County sheriff’s deputies responded to southbound Interstate 55 at the 72.4-mile marker in reference to multiple gunshots fired into a vehicle and multiple injured around 11 p.m. on Sunday, April 28.

Deputies contacted the victims.

The first victim was driving the vehicle and had a gunshot wound above the left eye.

The second victim was the front seat middle passenger and had several cuts on the left shoulder.

The third victim was the front seat passenger and had a bullet wound in his right foot that entered on the right side of his foot and exited his right foot and entered his left foot.

Deputies identified the shooter as Ethan Carlyle.

The victim’s vehicle was parked half on the shoulder and half in the driving lane on the west side of the road.

The silver Dodge Ram truck had two bullet exit holes in the driver’s side window.

On the passenger side, deputies found five bullet entrance holes, three in the front passenger door and two in the front passenger window.

At the hospital, the victims described hearing gunshots and saw flashes of light they believed to be gunfire, when they were struck and received injuries from the suspect.

Sikeston Department of Public Safety officers found Carlyle on Allen Street and arrested him.

Ethan Carlyle is charged with first degree assault, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon and property damage.

Carlyle remained in custody at the Scott County Jail with no bond.

Scott County Sheriff Wes Drury thanked the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Sikeston Department of Public Safety for their assistance with the investigation.
