Man accused of fraudulent insurance acts in Graves County
GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – A Marshall County man faces insurance fraud and other charges in Graves County.
Travis A. Thorpe, 33, of Gilbertsville faces charges of falsely reporting an incident and fraudulent insurance acts.
On January 13, Thorpe reported that his Chevrolet 2500HD Diesel pickup had been stolen from a field located on Ky Hwy 58 west of US Hwy 45 South.
On February 8, sheriff’s deputies found the reported stolen vehicle at a location in Tennessee a few miles from the Graves County line.
Information gathered from the investigation indicated that the vehicle was not stolen but was part of a plan to fraudulently collect insurance from Thorpe’s insurance company.
Deputies confirmed that Thorpe was trying to claim approximately $16,238.99 for the loss of his truck from his insurance company.
Thorpe was arrested Monday, February 19 around 1 a.m. in Marshall County after trying to run from Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies, reportedly pulling a knife on a deputy, while they were trying to arrest him on the Graves County arrest warrant.
He was found to be in possession of illegal drugs, according to Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden.
Thorpe faces additional charges in Marshall County related to that incident.
