Man arrested after attempting to evade police on a motorcycle

SALEM, KY (KBSI) – Deputy Kindred of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office noticed a motorcycle make numerous traffic violations.

When attempting to conduct a traffic stop at the intersection of U.S. 60 and Golden Meadow Driver on Sept. 20, the motorcycle began to accelerate away from Deputy Kindred. He pursued the suspect for around 35 miles when the bike tried to make a left-hand turn and lost control in a grassy area off Lola Rd. The man attempted to flee on foot but only made it a short distance before being caught. He was identified as Joseph Belt of Ledbetter, KY and after a search, Deputy Kindred found a glass smoking pipe and two bags containing a white crystal-like substance weighing 1.59 grams. Belt was lodged at the McCracken County Jail and faces the following charges:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (Methamphetamine)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Fleeing or Evading Police, 2nd Degree
  • Numerous traffic offenses
