Man arrested after police chase in Stoddard County

DEXTER, Mo. (KBSI) – A man faces multiple charges after police say he led them on a chase through Stoddard County.

Joseph Fowler faces charges of kidnapping 2nd degree, hindering prosecution of a felony, felony resisting arrest/detention, careless and imprudent driving, and exceeding the posted speed limit by 26 mph or more.

On January 19 at 4:27 p.m., while conducting a special traffic enforcement detail Patrolman Dylan Williams with the Dexter Police Department tried to stop a black GMC Envoy for a traffic violation.

Patrolman Williams believed the driver to be driving the vehicle under the influence due to his erratic driving.

The suspect sped through the electronic signaling device at State Hwy. 25 and Stoddard Street and continued to State Hwy. AF where he made a U-turn over the concrete median, according to Dexter police.

Fowler then drove back northbound on State Hwy. 25 traveling in the southbound lanes from the Dexter city limits to the Bloomfield city limits.

The suspect re-entered the northbound lane, traveled to Aquilla where police say he made an abrupt turn onto State Hwy. M.

Following at a safe distance, Patrolman Williams saw the driver turn onto State Hwy. BB, and then to County Road 264, which is a dead-end road.

After leaving the road and driving onto private property at the end of County Road 264, the driver began back westbound toward State Hwy. BB.

Aware the driver was westbound, Detective Thomas Forkum positioned his patrol unit parallelly in the intersection of State Hwy. BB and County Road 264.

This caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle where the chase ended in a ditch on the west side of State Hwy. BB.

The driver was identified as Fowler and his passenger as Melissa Schroeder both from Arnold, Mo. They were arrested.

Fowler has multiple outstanding felony warrants. Schroeder also had a felony warrant.

Fowler requested medical treatment for previous medical issues he was dealing with. He was transported to Mercy hospital in Dexter for evaluation. Schroeder refused medical treatment.

Fowler is being held with no bond.
