Man arrested after police chase of more than 100 miles per hour, search through cornfield

CARLISLE COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – A Cairo, Illinois man faces charges in Carlisle County, Kentucky after a police chase with speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

Terrell Jones, 21, of Cairo, Illinois faces charges of speeding 26mph or greater, fleeing or evading police 1st degree motor vehicle, fleeing or evading police 1st degree on foot, wanton endangerment 1st degree police, resisting arrest. He also faces numerous other traffic related offenses.

The Carlisle County Sheriff’s Office received a request for assistance from the Ballard County Sheriff’s Office on June 15 around 11:30 p.m. regarding a vehicle chase on eastbound KY 286 involving a silver Dodge Charger with Illinois license plates.

Ballard County Sheriff’s deputies relayed information the vehicle was traveling more than 100 miles per hour.

As the chase entered the Gage community, the vehicle turned around and headed back westbound on KY 286.

Sgt. James Campbell of the Ballard County Sheriff’s Office tried to deploy spike strips in the path of the vehicle, but sheriff’s deputies say the driver swerved toward Sgt. Campbell, almost striking him.

Sgt. Campbell successfully spiked multiple tires on the vehicle and caused it to become disabled near Wilson Road and KY 286.

That is where deputies say the driver got out of the vehicle and started running away.

Deputies from Ballard, Carlisle and McCracken counties saturated the area to try to find the driver.

Around 4 a.m. William Crafton, a drone operator with the Carlisle County Rescue Squad, found a heat signature in a cornfield in the 4900 block of KY 286.

Jones was arrested.
