CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – A man faces several charges after law enforcement say he led an officer on a high speed chase reaching speeds of 110 miles per hour in Cape Girardeau County.

Michael R. Crittenden faces charges of resisting arrest/detention/stop by fleeing – creating a substantial risk of serious injury/death to any person, driving while revoked/suspended, operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner and failure to register motor vehicle.

An officer on patrol in Cape Girardeau saw a motorcycle traveling north on N. Main approaching Themis around 10:39 p.m. on Sunday, August 18.

The officer said the motorcyclist stopped at a stop sign and began driving north on N. Main Street.

The officer activated emergency lights and tried to catch up with the motorcyclist and as the officer caught up, the driver sped away from the patrol vehicle. That’s when the officer said the police chase started. It went north on Big Bend past Lexington, continued north on Route 177 to the intersection of Route V, continued north/northwest on Route V to the intersection of Route V and Route Y, then right on Route V traveling north to the intersection of Route V and 177. Then the chase made a left through oncoming yield lane to turn south on Rout V from 177. The officer says the chase continued  west on Hwy. 177 with speeds nearing 110 miles an hour.

While on Hwy. 177 and past Lilan Lane, the officer says the motorcyclist downshifted. That’s when the officer pulled up to the right side of the motorcycle and forced the driver off the road into a yard at 20782 State Hwy. 177.

Police say the chase lasted 21.76 miles with speeds ranging from 75-110 mph.

Police say the driver failed to use turn signals and continously drove on the wrong side of the highway at high rates of speed.

When the motorcyclist stopped, the officer says the driver took off his helmet and lowered himself to the ground. He was arrested.

Police say Crittenden’s driver’s license was currently revoked and he had four previous convictions of driving while revoked.
