Man arrested for burglary at Zeigler-Royalton High School

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — Authorities arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly breaking into Zeigler-Royalton High School late Saturday night.

Steven J. Godfrey, of Christopher, was taken into custody after a brief foot chase with Zeigler police officers, who responded to a potential burglary call at approximately 11:05 p.m.

Godfrey faces multiple charges, including theft, a Class 4 felony; burglary, a Class 1 felony; and several Class A misdemeanors, including criminal trespass, criminal damage, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the Zeigler Police Department for their swift response and assistance in the arrest.

Godfrey is being held at the Franklin County Jail and is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
