Man arrested for impersonating an FBI agent

Mayfield, Ky. (KBSI) – A man was arrested after trying to arrest a business owner as an FBI agent who had ‘arrest powers.’

On November 30,2023, James Dowdy, age 73 of Mayfield called the Mayfield Police Department after getting trespassed from a local business.

He claimed to be employed by the FBI and said he was sworn in and had arrest powers.

He provided officers with fake credentials and informed officers he had a service weapon in his possession.

Dowdy had also threatened to arrest the business employee after he was served a lawful notice of trespass warning.

The FBI Field Office was contacted, and confirmed Dowdy is not employed or contracted in any way through the FBI.
Officers seized the firearm and fake credentials as evidence.
Dowdy was charged with Impersonating a Peace Officer and arrested.
