Man arrested in Paducah after tip about child sex abuse material

PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – A man was arrested in Paducah Friday after a tip concerning child sex abuse material.

Richard A. Gibson, 53, of Alameda Drive, faces charges of possession of controlled subject – 1st degree, 1st offense (methamphetamine), drug paraphernalia – buy/possess, possession of matter portray sexual performance by minor under 12.

In March of 2024, Paducah Police detectives were notified through the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) of a person in possession of child sex abuse material.

Detective Kevin Wilson investigated and identified Gibson as the person in possession of the child sex abuse material and verified his address to be in the city of Paducah.

On March 29, detectives executed a search warrant at Gibson’s home an Alameda Drive in Paducah on Friday, March 29 at 9:30 a.m. and arrested him.

The collected multiple electronic devices from the home, where detectives say more images of child sex abuse material were recovered.

Detectives say they also found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

Richard Gibson is on the lifetime sex offender registry for the sexual abuse of an 11-year-old child. He was originally charged in Oklahoma for lewd or indecent proposals/acts to a child.

A Kentucky State Police detective with the electronic crimes branch assisted detectives.

The investigation is ongoing. Further charges are pending.
