Man arrested with loaded gun, ammunition at SEMO District Fair

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A man was taken into custody Friday night after security personnel at a Cape Girardeau event found him with a loaded handgun and ammunition, police said.
Officers assigned to the event security detail said the incident occurred around 9:30 p.m., shortly after the event had ended. According to reports, security staff confronted a man who entered the unsecured area after closing.
When security attempted to search the man’s backpack, in line with event policy and posted “No Weapons” signage, a struggle began. Witnesses said the man, identified as [Name: Saffold], cursed and made a threatening remark before reaching toward his waistband.
Security personnel tackled him to the ground and discovered a handgun in his front waistband. The weapon was loaded and secured by a witness. Officers later found additional ammunition inside the man’s backpack.
The suspect was held until Cape Girardeau police arrived. Charges are pending.
