Man charged in stabbing incident in rural Murphysboro

MURPHYSBORO, Ill., (KBSI) — A disturbance call led Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies to a stabbing incident near Business Highway 13 and Ava Road early Saturday morning.

Responding deputies found Matthew Dunmyer and Nico Harper, both covered in blood, on a resident’s porch on Ava Road. Dunmyer had a severe neck laceration, and Harper had a severe hand laceration. Deputies provided medical aid until ambulances arrived, transporting the pair to a hospital for further treatment.

A preliminary investigation indicated that Dunmyer, Harper, and Michael Alstat were traveling together when a fight broke out. Alstat, who had minor injuries, was taken into custody and charged with reckless conduct and two counts of aggravated battery.

Alstat was transported to the Jackson County Jail.
