Man charged with attempted murder of first responder
MURRAY, Ky. (KBSI) — Eric Saxton, 23, of Benton, Kentucky, has been charged with attempted murder of a first responder, possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Saxton was arrested in Tennessee after being released from a medical facility. He will be held in a Tennessee jail pending extradition proceedings.
The charges stem from an incident on June 16, in which Murray police officers responded to a report of an out-of-control subject armed with a knife. Saxton allegedly charged at officers, prompting an officer to discharge their weapon, striking Saxton.
The Kentucky State Police is investigating the officer-involved shooting, and the Murray Police Department is conducting a separate criminal investigation.
Saxton is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
