Man charged with murder, armed criminal action after deadly stabbing in Benton, MO

BENTON, Mo. (KBSI) – A man faces murder and armed criminal action charges in Scott County.
Brian Morrell is charged with first degree murder and armed criminal action in connection to a stabbing death.
Scott County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to 407 Lake Road in Benton in reference to an assault in progress on Monday, April 22 around 7 a.m.
Deputies found Brian Morrell. He told them, he had stabbed the victim, and the victim had died.
The victim was found near a barn located on the north side of the property.
Scott County Sheriff Wes Drury says the victim had injuries consistent with Morell’s statement.
North Scott County Ambulance District personnel arrived on the scene and treated the victim. However, life saving measures were unsuccessful.
The Scott County Coroner responded to the scene and declared the victim dead.
He is being held at the Scott County Jail with no bond.
Sheriff Drury says the identity of the victim will not be released an autopsy is completed later in the week.
Sheriff Drury thanked the Missouri State Highway Patrol for assistance with the investigation.
