Man dies in crash in rural Murphysboro

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A Murphysboro man died in a crash Tuesday morning.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a single vehicle traffic crash on Town Creek Road, near Worthen Cemetery Road, in rural Murphysboro on Tuesday, January 2 at 7:40 a.m.
A preliminary investigation shows a black 2002 Mitsubishi was eastbound on Town Creek Road. The vehicle was driven by Kyle Lee Thompson, 27, of Murphysboro.
The vehicle left the road to the right, struck a driveway culvert, then overturned multiple times.
Thompson was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to Sgt. Ronald Stanton with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash is being investigated by the sheriff’s office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
The Jackson County Ambulance Service, Jackson County Coroner’s Office, MurphysboroPomona-Somerset Fire Protection District, and the Murphysboro Fire Department assisted on
the call.
The road was closed for about two hours while emergency crews responded.
