Man facing assault, harassment charges after accused of threatening woman at convenience store

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – A man faces assault and harassment charges after police say he threatened a woman at a convenience store in Cape Girardeau County.
Robert Hefner faces charges of third-degree assault – special victim, first-degree harrassment and resisting/interfering with arrest for a felony.
Authorities were called to the Rhode’s Convenience Store at 4640 State Highway 72 in Cape Girardeau County around 11:13 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 for a reported disturbance.
A person reported that a man wearing a red t-shirt and khaki shorts threatened to bash her head in and shoot her.
When authorities arrived, they found Hefner walking near Law Bikes. When the deputy pulled his patrol vehicle over, he says Hefner looked back and began to run. The deputy got out of the patrol vehicle, commanded him to stop and identified himself as a law enforcement officer.
They say Hefner continued to run and turned around the corner of a house.
Hefner was found trying to hide in tall grass.
The deputy says when he/she tried to search Hefner that Hefner kicked rearward twice and hit him in the left knee.
He has a $25,000 cash bond.
