Man facing attempted murder of police officer, other charges in Wickliffe
WICKLIFFE, Ky. (KBSI) – A man faces attempted murder of a police officer charges after a police chase from Kentucky to Illinois.
Chaz Bradshaw faces charges of attempted murder of a police officer, assault 3rd degree – police officer, criminal mischief 1st degree, fleeing or evading police 1st degree, speeding 8 mph over, resisting arrest and reckless driving.
A Ballard County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a white Chevrolet Malibu on Phillips Drive in Wickliffe at the Dollar General.
As the car stopped in the parking lot, the driver identified at Chaz Bradshaw of Cairo, Ill. began to walk into the store.
The deputy instructed Bradshaw to come back. The deputy asked Bradshaw for his license. Bradshaw told the deputy it was in the vehicle..
The deputy could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from Bradshaw, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.
As Bradshaw went to the driver side door to look for his license, a handgun could be seen in plain view in the driver’s seat.
Bradshaw sat on the handgun and the deputy told him several times to step out of the vehicle, but the deputy said Bradshaw would not comply.
The deputy went to assist him out of the vehicle and onto his feet. That’s when Bradshaw began to resist and a brief struggle happened, according to the sheriff’s office report.
That’s when the sheriff’s deputy says Bradshaw lunged into the vehicle where was gun was and closed the driver door.
The deputy started to get in his car. That’s when Bradshaw put his car in the reverse and accelerated fast toward the deputy causing him to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.
Then, Bradshaw drove to Cairo, Illinois and stopped behind a home. The vehicle was covered up by a tarp.
Bradshaw turned himself in to Illinois authorities on January 29.
He was taken back to Ballard County.
