Man facing charges after Marion, IL police seize guns after traffic stop

MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces weapons charges after he was pulled over by a Marion police officer for speeding.

Sgt. Thompson initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding and lane usage around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7.

Whe he approached the vehicle a rifle with a loaded drum magazine was seen lying on the passenger floorboard. An additional pistol equipped with a high capacity magazine was found on the passenger seat, all within immediate access to the driver, according to the Marion Police Department.

Charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and citations for speeding and lane usage are pending against 22-year-old Malik Evans.

He was taken to the Williamson County Jail pending future court proceedings.
