Man facing charges after suspicious field fires in Calloway County
CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – A Kirksey man faces charges after numerous suspicious field fires in the Kirksey area between October 2022 and July 2023.
John W. Young, 70, of Kirksey faces eight counts of criminal mischief 3rd degree, criminal mischief 1st degree and willfully setting fire on land not owned/controlled by self.
The fields, as well as large bales of hay, had been ignited intentionally causing loss to farmers in that area.
No structures were damages.
Citizens or fire personnel devoted numerous hours of fighting fires, sometimes more than one at a time, have put the members of Calloway County Fire-Rescue at risk as they fought to keep the flames away from homes and structures.
On July 14, after a lengthy investigation, Young arrested. He was taken to the Calloway County Detention Center.
