Man facing domestic assault, unlawful use of weapon charges in Cape Girardeau County

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – A man faces domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon charges in Cape Girardeau County.
Christopher N. Johnston, an employee of the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office Jail Division, is charged with has charged Johnston with the class E felonies of domestic assault in the third degree and unlawful use of a weapon.
On December 31, Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to investigate a domestic disturbance at an address on County Road 532.
Deputies determined that a physical altercation had occurred between a father and his son after an argument.
The son had showed a firearm and made a threat during the fight, according to deputies with the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office.
Cape Girardeau County Sheriff Ruth Ann Dickerson immediately suspended Johnston with pay until the finalization of an internal investigation.
Sheriff Dickerson assures the citizens that this will be handled like any other investigation.
Johnston is being held at a different agency to avoid a conflict of interest.
Associate Judge Julia Koester set the bond at $10,000, cash or surety.
