Spike in drug arrests in Scott City
SCOTT CITY, Mo. (KBSI) – A man faces a drug charge after a vehicle stop in Scott City.
Scott City Police officers conducted a vehicle stop on March 7.
During the stop, officers searched the vehicle and people inside.
Scott City Police Chief Christopher M. Griggs says officers found dangerous narcotics and material used in drug trafficking.
James Hennecke of Scott City faces a charge of trafficking drugs or attempt 1st degree.
He was taken to the Scott City Police Department on a no bond warrant.
In the last three to four weeks Scott City police department has had 15 felony arrests, nine of those arrests were for narcotics and they’ve seized around 120 grams of drugs.
Scott City police Chief Chris Griggs says it’s not just their department seeing an increase.
“Well, I don’t think it’s just us I think every community is probably seeing this ya know we’ve been fortunate with our staff in being proactive in that and trying to eradicate that.”
Scott city business owner Alex Landewee says he agrees it’s not just an issue in Scott City.
“It doesn’t matter what community no matter how big or how small drugs are everywhere.”
Landewee says the department has done a great job cleaning up the community.
“I want to applaud the Scott City Police Department for doing their job, they have been amazing.”
