WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces drug charges after sheriff’s deputies made a traffic stop Tuesday in Williamson County.

Jordan A. Travelstead faces charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies say they saw a driver commit several traffic violations in the area of Stotlar Road east of Illinois Route 37 around 12:25 p.m. on June 4.

They stopped the vehicle and spoke to the people inside who they say admitted to having drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

When deputies asked the people in the vehicle to get out they say a passenger became argumentative.

Deputies say they opened the back driver’s side door and told Travelstead to get out of the vehicle.

That’s when they say he reached for his pants pockets and deputies saw a firearm.

A deputy grabbed the handle of the weapon and threw it to the ground.

They put Travelstead in handcuffs and searched him.

Deputies say they found a glass smoking devices containing a white residue which later field tested positive for methamphetamine in Travelstead’s right pants pocket.

The firearm, which deputies say appeared to have been real, was later determined to be a look-alike CO2 BB gun.

The deputies conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and say they found a bag containing methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and Travelstead’s wallet (with his identification).

Travelstead was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
