Man facing DUI after crash in Graves County

MAYFIELD, Ky. (KBSI) – A man faces a charge a DUI under the age of 21 after sheriff’s deputies say he struck another vehicle causing minor injuries.

Graves County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to an injury crash on KY 384 near intersection of Thomas Road, about four miles west of Mayfield on October 21 around 9 p.m.

Deputies found a white F-250 driven by Derrick Stewart, 20, of Mayfield, southbound behind a black Ford Fusion driven by Juan Cruz, 24, of Murray.

Cruz was trying to turn in a driveway when his vehicle collided with Stewart’s vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

The crash caused severe damage to both vehicles and partially blocked KY-384, according to the sheriff’s office.

A driver and two passengers were in the Ford Fusion. One passenger was flown to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The other was flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn. The other car also had a driver and two passengers that were taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to Graves County Sheriff’s Office.

After an on-scene investigation, Stewart was arrested for DUI under the age of 21.

The investigation is ongoing by Deputy Austin Caldwell and assisted by Chief Deputy Jeremy Prince, Deputy Garret Clark, Deputy Peyton Jackson, Deputy Greg Sloan, Mayfield/Graves County EMS, Mayfield/Graves County Fire and Rescue Squad and Graves County Emergency Management.

Everyone has been released from medical centers with only minor injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
