Man facing murder, other charges after death of elderly woman in Scott City

SCOTT CITY, Mo. (KBSI) – A man faces a first-degree murder charge in Scott City after the death of an elderly woman.
Donald Harris faces charges of murder 1st degree, armed criminal action, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.
Scott City Police Chief Christopher M. Griggs says officers with his department assisted by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol (D.D.C.C.) are investigating a death of an woman.
During a narcotics investigation, Chief Griggs says Harris told officers from Scott City Police Department that he had “killed” the victim for disrespecting his wife, and he took pills from the victim.
Officers responded to the address.
While they were enroute, Scott City E-911 received a 911 call reporting the death of an elderly female at the address that was provided by Harris.
Officers found the victim inside the home.
Chief Griggs says she appeared to have suffered blunt force trauma to her head and facial area.
Officers found a large wooden walking stick with blood on it near the victim.
A probable cause affidavit was filed with the Scott County Prosecutor’s Office.
Harris is being held at the Scott County Sheriff’s Office on no bond.
