Man facing weapons charge after sheriff’s deputy flagged down

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A Cape Girardeau man faces a weapons charge after a sheriff’s deputy was flagged down by someone.

Officers with the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded to the area of Highway 74 and Ellis Street around 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, July for a report of a weapon violation.

The victim, while on the phone with Cape Girardeau Police Department Dispatch, flagged down a Cape Girardeau Sheriff’s deputy and told him of the situation.

The deputy saw three males running and saw one of the suspects placed a firearm inside a backpack.

Officers canvassed the area, found all three suspects and arrested them.

One suspect, a juvenile, was taken to the juvenile office.

Demarion Brown, 18, of Cape Girardeau faces a charge of class E felony of unlawful use of a weapon.

He is being held on a $20,000 cash only bond.

The Cape Girardeau County Prosecutors Office declined to file charges on the third suspect due to lack of evidence.
