ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — St. Louis County Police detectives are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting early Friday at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
Police said the shooting occurred around 1:05 a.m. in Terminal 1, where STL Airport Police officers encountered an adult male armed with a knife during a routine security check. Officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he refused. One officer deployed a Taser, but the man continued advancing toward police, according to investigators.
A second officer then fired his service weapon, striking the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons has assumed the investigation. Airport police said the officers involved have been with the STL Airport Police Department for six months and one year, respectively, and both have previous law enforcement experience.
No officers were injured. Police caution that the investigation is ongoing and that early details may change.
