Man found dead after hit-and-run near Sparta

RANDOLPH COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – Multiple law enforcements agencies are investigating a deadly hit and run crash in Randolph County.
Randolph County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a motorcycle crash around 1:30 a.m. on August 12 that happened two miles from the Baldwin power plant.
Deputies found the body of Christopher Barnes on County Road 218 about two-thirds of a mile west of Gander Hollow Road in Sparta.
Preliminary findings at the scnee indicate Barnes was involved in a hit and run. He was driving an electric motorized bicycle.
The cause and manner is death is pending toxicology and autopsy results.
After finding evidence at the scene, sheriff’s deputies found the vehicle they believed involved in the crash as well as the driver.
As of Monday, no charges had been filed.
