Man found walking on road with knife on hip arrested, accused of aggravated assault

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces an assult charges after sheriff’s deputies say he threatened a person with a knife in Williamson County.

Joshua S. Colburn faces charges of aggravated assault and obstructing identification.

Deputies from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Binkley Road near Whiteash on November 11 at 7:13 p.m. for a report of a man threatening another with a knife.

Deputies found a man walking south on Binkley Road with a knife in a sheath on his hip. The man refused to identify himself on contact and remained uncooperative, according to deputies with the sheriff’s office.

The knife was removed and the Colburn was searched for any additional weapons. A small black cylinder item was found in his back right pocket. Colburn said it was pepper spray for his protection, according to the sheriff’s office.

During the search of the Colburn, authorities say he refused to provide his name or date of birth.

He did not have any form of identification on him or in his wallet at the time.

Sheriffs deputies say he was extremely aggressive and rude during the interaction.

After the third attempt to identify him, he was placed his under arrest for obstructing identification.

Deputies contacted the victim at his home who said that that the man deputies saw walking on Binkley Road had pulled a knife and made threats toward him.

The suspect was taken to the Williamson County Jail.

While deputies were taking him to the jail, they say he continued to be verbally aggressive and referred to the deputies in random expletives which were captured on the patrol vehicle’s in-car video and audio recording system.

During processing at the jail, deputies say Colburn refused to comply with directions during booking and was placed in a restraint chair.

At 10:35 p.m. jail staff were able to identify him.
