Man injured, horse dies after vehicle crashes into runaway horse in Graves County

GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – A man was injured when his vehicle crashed into a horse in Graves County Saturday evening.

Graves County sheriff’s deputies responded to US 45 North near Hunt Road for a vehicle verses horse collision on Saturday, January 6 at 6:59 p.m.

Joshua Grismer, 34, of Mayfield, was driving a 2017 Mitsubishi Lancer traveling north on US 45.

A gray horse that got loose from the auction barn on US 45 crossed the highway in front of Grismer’s vehicle, according to deputies with the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.

Grismer was unable to avoid the crash and struck the horse. The horse died in the crash.

Grismer had injuries and was taken to Lourdes/Mercy Health Hospital in Paducah by Mayfield/Graves County EMS.

Deputy Austin Ramage, Deputy Ben Doran, the Kentucky State Police, the Mayfield Police Department, Mayfield/Graves County EMS, the Mayfield Fire Department, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet – Department of Highways, and Mayfield/Graves County Fire and Rescue Squad.
