Man killed in officer-involved shooting

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — An investigation is underway into a deadly officer-involved shooting in Jefferson County, Missouri.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a man banging on the door of a home on Old Highway 21, just north of Hillsboro, around 9:30 p.m. Monday.
When deputies arrived, the man pointed a handgun toward his head, prompting deputies to call for backup, including crisis intervention personnel.
Over the next three hours, the Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiation Team and Mental Health Crisis Response Team arrived to help de-escalate the situation.
Shortly after 12 a.m., the man fired a handgun at deputies, who returned fire.
The man was hit and taken to an area hospital, where he died. His identity has not been released. No deputies were injured in the incident.
