CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — Richard Bann was sentenced to five years in the Missouri Department of Corrections on Monday after pleading guilty to stealing from a financial institution.

Bann, who appeared in court on Feb. 10, withdrew his initial not guilty plea and admitted to the charge.

The crime occurred in August 2024, when Cape Girardeau police responded to an alarm at Southern Bank and found Bann sitting outside on his walker.

He handed over an envelope containing $20 and reportedly told officers he robbed the bank to obtain medical treatment.
