Man with double edged sword tells deputies “I am not surrendering”

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A man faces charges after refusing to put down a double edge sword.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on September 25, 2024, around 4:07 am the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a subject in rural Mulkeytown who was armed with a sword and destroying property.
Deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff’s immediately responded to the area and began searching for the subject. The subject had made threats to area residents and also inflicted significant damage to private property.
Around 5:21 am the subject was located near a residence and was armed with a double-edged sword that was approximately three feet long. The subject was identified as Kevin J. Fasig II age 29 of Mulkeytown. A deputy began giving him Fasig commands to drop the sword. He refused to comply and stated “I am not surrendering”. The Deputy was able to deploy his taser on two separate occasions, however, neither deployment was successful.
Eventually, OC Spray was deployed and Fasig was taken into custody.
Fasig was taken to the Franklin County Jail and has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault (Class 4 Felony), four counts of Criminal Damage to Property (Class 3 Felony), Resisting / Obstructing a Peace Officer (Class A Misdemeanor) and Armed Violence (Class X Felony).
