Marion car show raises thousands of dollars for Gary Sinise Foundation

MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – In 2005, Bryan Anderson lost both of his legs and his left hand while serving in Baghdad.

Now, he is an ambassador for the Gary Sinise Foundation.

“We don’t let veterans fall through the crack, and they’re getting the care that the need,” Anderson said.

The proceeds from Saturday’s car show at Mountain Dew Park go to the foundation, which helps veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need through various nationwide programs and activities.

Anderson said this event provides another benefit to the foundation in addition to the money.

“This is also a way to spread the word about the Gary Sinise Foundation and get out into the local communities instead of just being a ‘corporate,’” he said.

Anderson said despite his accident, spending time in third-world countries has given him a greater appreciation for his life here.

“I just took it a day at a time and saw where things led, and I have an incredible life now,” he said. “The way I keep things in perspective is I’ve been to third-world countries, and that makes me feel proud and thankful and grateful that I live here.”

Shawn Hughes, president of Interstate Tire Pros, the car show’s host, said even if you, a family member, or a friend didn’t serve in the military, we all have a personal connection to those who serve our country.

“That’s why we can stand here and be free, is because of them, and that’s our personal connection,” he said

All in all, this show raised $5,000 for the Gary Sinise Foundation. For more information on the foundation, or to donate, click here.
