Marion man dies after crash near Elkville

ELKVILLE, Ill. (KBSI) – A Marion man died after an early morning crash Wednesday near Elkville.

Trenton J. Miller, 31, died in the crash, according to a sergeant with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a crash about 2:12 a.m. on October 18 on Royalton Road at Barwick Road in rural Elkville.

A caller reported he had struck debris in the road and then found a crashed vehicle off the road.

The driver was found on the round a short distance from the vehicle.

A preliminary investigation determined a blue 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe was driven eastbound by Miller on Royalton Road approaching Barwick Road in rural Elkville.

The vehicle went off the road to the right, struck a culvert and utility pole then overturned several times.

Miller was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

He was treated at the scene, then taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The road was closed for about 4.5 hours.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating.

The Jackson County Ambulance Service, Jackson County Coroner’s Office, Elkville Fire Department,, Dowell Fire Department and Royalton Fire Department assisted on the call.
