Marion man found guilty of attempted murder, firearm charges

MARION, Ill., (KBSI) – Marsha L. Cascio-Hale, Jackson County State’s Attorney, announced today that Zoremoreyon J.D. Moore, 21, of Marion, has been found guilty of attempted murder and multiple firearm-related charges.
Moore was convicted of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm, two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon following a six-day jury trial that concluded on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
The case stemmed from a shooting incident on March 20, 2022, near Raawi’s General Store in Carbondale, where the victim, Jakobi Shered, suffered gunshot wounds to his back, chest, and side.
Moore was identified as a person of interest through video surveillance and was subsequently stopped and detained by Marion Police on March 23, 2022.
A loaded Glock 9mm handgun was recovered from Moore’s possession, and he later confessed to the crime during a post-Miranda interview.
Jackson County Assistant State’s Attorney Sophia Allen led the prosecution, stating that Moore faces a sentence of 31 to 85 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Allen emphasized the impact of gun violence on the community and reiterated the office’s commitment to prosecuting such crimes to the fullest extent of the law.
