Marion police arrest man accused of bathing, doing laundry during burglary spree

MARION, Ill. (Nov. 4, 2025) – A 60-year-old man is in custody after police say he went on an unusual burglary spree that involved bathing and doing laundry inside his victims’ homes.
According to the Marion Police Department, officers were called around 2:30 p.m. Saturday to the 700 block of North Logan Street for a reported burglary involving forced entry. Minutes later, police discovered a second break-in nearby in the 600 block.
Officers later located the suspect, identified as Leslie B. Clover, in the 800 block of North Washington Street. After a short foot pursuit, Clover was arrested. Police say he was found carrying stolen property.
During questioning, detectives said Clover admitted to breaking into multiple homes and using the victims’ showers and washing their clothes before leaving. A third burglary was also confirmed during the interview.
Clover is charged with three counts of burglary, two counts of theft over $500, and two counts of criminal damage to property over $500. He is being held at the Williamson County Jail pending his first court appearance.
