Marion Police recover stolen vehicle, 3 taken into custody

MARION, Ill., (KBSI) — A stolen vehicle was recovered and three people were taken into custody following a joint effort by the Marion Police Department and the Carterville Police Department.

The incident began at approximately 8 a.m. today when the Marion Police Department received a report of a stolen silver Ford Escape from a business in the 1200 block of W. Dufour Street.

The vehicle was equipped with an active GPS monitoring system, which allowed a detective to track its location and relay the information to other officers.

The vehicle was spotted traveling eastbound on Illinois Route 13 in Carterville, where a Carterville police officer intercepted it and followed it to the intersection of Route 148 and Route 13.

At the intersection, the stolen vehicle struck the trailer of another motorist. Marion police officers and detectives then conducted a felony stop, taking two adults and one juvenile into custody without incident.

The three individuals are being held pending charges for possession of a stolen vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
