MARION, Ill. (KBSI) – Police in Marion warn the public of a scam in which a caller identified him/herself as a Marion Police officer and indicated that the recipient of the call had a warrant for his/her arrest.

Police say the caller also requested personal information, including credit card information to quash the warrant.

Police say the scammer was able to “spoof” a Marion Police Department telephone number.

Marion police say an officer will never request payment information for any reason over the telephone.

For anyone who is suspicious of a caller identifying him/herself as law enforcement, ask for the “officer’s” name and badge number, disconnect the phone call prior to answering any questions and then reinitiate contact at 618-993-2124.
